Formula 1 is the ultimate racing experience, not just for the skilled drivers, but also for the spectators. The fast speeds at which the cars compete to leave each other behind has made it into one of the most watched sporting events in the world. The real test comes when the vehicles have to take turns, and that’s where the significance of corners becomes apparent. We look at some of the best corners in F1 track history.

Grand Hotel Hairpin, Monaco

The Grand Hotel hairpin is one of the most famous corners not just in Monaco but in Formula 1. Unlike other corners, it is not the slowest but still forces the drivers to pass through at a speed of only 65 km/h. The name of this corner has evolved a lot over the years, as the name of the hotel right above the road has also changed. Previously it was known by the names of Station Hairpin, Fairmont and Lowes.

S do Senna, Sao Paulo

This sector of the circuit is considered a high-speed region and is pretty straightforward for drivers as they are moving fast until the Senna S corner. The corner is situated near a downhill turn on the left side with the road falling towards the right. Over the years, S do Senna has seen its fair share of accidents. Therefore, the corner requires a broad set of skills such as control over movement, precision in changing direction and wheels that stick.

Swimming Pool Complex, Monaco

After the Tabac corner, there wasn’t any other turn originally on the Monaco F1 circuit. But it was in 1973 when the Nautical Stadium was built that the structure of the road had to change which resulted in a complex corner. Now there is a double bend that gives it a distinctive design very rarely seen in Formula 1. The curves help in crossing the swimming pool at better speeds. The second of these bends is named after the famous 1950’s driver Virage Louis Chiron.

130R, Suzuka

It might seem like a strange name, but it does make sense because the turn has a 130 meter radius. It is one of the fastest presently on the circuit where drivers speed up to 305 km/h but it’s this that also makes it most dangerous. After a couple of high profile accidents in the 2000’s the track was modified to add a straight path which has turned it into a double apex corner. The speed has increased considerably, but the thrill for drivers remains the same and that’s why it’s in the list.

Eau Rouge, Spa

Eau Rouge at the Belgium Grand Prix may not be the most dangerous corner but for sure it is the most famous. It got it’s name because of World War II when this region was the centre of extreme military resistance. The name Eau Rogue, meaning red water  originated at that time for some reason. It has slightly lost significance because of the developments that have taken place to make it safer for drivers due to improved grip but is still an all-time great corner.

Turn 8, Istanbul

While other corners are considered more famous, Turn 8 in Istanbul is probably the most underrated of them all. It is multi-apex, and drivers can pass through it at speeds of 270 km/h. Not only is it fast but extremely bumpy as well which makes it extremely difficult for drivers to see what’s ahead of them. The length of this corner is 640 meters which is the longest among any presently on the circuit and currently at takes around 9 seconds to cross.

Parabolica, Monza

A lot of work has been done on Parabolica to turn it into a sharp corner. Previously, without a proper road dirt removal system, dust would fly around when the drivers went through, but that has thankfully gone. With that though, the thrill and adventure have also disappeared. It is still considered one of the famous corners because of the length of the turn and the precision required to drive across it at high speeds. Just a small misjudgement can result in an accident, but thankfully it has stayed safe.

Turn 13, Sepang

This is a corner that does not have a proper name but is considered a challenging one for drivers in Formula 1. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons the Malaysian Grand Prix gained significance. The speeds at this corner are high especially since cars are coming straight from Turn 12. While moving towards the turn, drivers have to carefully manage the switch from the left corner to the right one. The only advantage that exists is the excellent exit point which comes as a relief on an otherwise steep path.

Maggots Becketts Chapel, Silverstone

Maggots Becketts Chapel is one of the most extended corners in Formula One, just behind Turn 8. Speeds of 300 km/h are reached at the steep turns which are considered to be one of the best sequences in the calendar. At high speeds, drivers have to navigate down through the left-hand side then quickly turn towards the right to stay on the path. This left and right keeps the drivers on their toes for almost eight seconds over a stretch of five apexes.

Paddock Hill, Brands Hatch

People who like some history and retro style would love the Paddock Hill bend, which is the most famous at the Brands Hatch Circuit in the United Kingdom. It was not present in the initial design but a change in direction required to increase the distance resulted in its creation. It has a length of 0.45 km and takes drivers to another side of the valley switching from the left-hand bend towards the Druid Hills Bend.


In a nutshell, there are many other corners at each of the Grand Prix that can claim to be as famous as these, but these are the ultimate ten in our eyes. Some of them are no longer in existence, while others are still part of the exhilarating experience that we know as the Formula 1. All have their place in racing history.

Land Rover is one of the most famous vehicle brands around the world that specialise in luxury cars. It gained prominence ever since its introduction in the 1940s and now has become an icon for the United Kingdom. Run by the British manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover, it is owned by Tata Motors of India for well over a decade. In this article, we look at some of the fantastic facts regarding this brand.
Second World War connection
The times during which Land Rovers were originated was nothing short of a miracle. After the Second World War, the British economy was going through a tough time, and the government had applied several taxes and guarantees regarding vehicle exporting to ensure they are used by the manufacturers. Another hurdle during the 1940s was the low supply of steel and inflated prices. Two brothers, Spencer and Maurice Wilks started working on the design and were inspired by the original version of Jeep. They even used the Jeep’s chassis and axles for the prototype, which was the only vehicle they had on their farm. The aim was to come up with a stronger and efficient car that can work comfortably in farms and at the same times, run fast on the roads. Hence the term Land Rover was introduced.
Received all three Royal Warrants
Within a couple of years of its inception, Land Rover was able to gain the attention of the British Royal family. In 1951, it was granted a first Royal Warrant by King George VI in 1951. Land Rover provided the first bespoke state review car for the King and has ever since been the preferred vehicle for the Royal Family. It is one of the only two automotive companies that have all the three Royal Warrants from Her Majesty The Queen, His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. It allows companies to promote the fact that they are associated with the Buckingham Palace. But it is also rumoured that not just publicity, but the queen prefers Land Rovers and has driven the cars for several years.
Used for military purposes
Land Rover Series II and III and Defender have become synonymous with the army usage around the world. These designs use aluminium as the core material, which means longer resistance in corrosive conditions and strength against strokes. It is most commonly used by the British Army and other Commonwealth countries such as Italy, Iraq, and Pakistan for patrol duties, although they are known by different names in each location. It was frequently used until recently, but due to the bomb attacks and mines, various armies are now trying to replace them. As of today, they still have a useful role and will take years to come up with an alternative vehicle that performs tasks in a variety of conditions.
Detailed attention on off-road functions
The first land rover design was very different from what we are used to today. It had a steering wheel in the middle, just like the jeeps in the late 1940s. Both the brothers lived on a farm in Anglesey Wales and required a vehicle that can help them work on the farm, as there were no proper roads nearby. Although they did take into account the car’s efficiency on the streets. Initially, hurdle clearance was focused upon in detail, and the recent models have just improved the designs for hurdle crossing purposes by introducing height-adjustable air suspension. It also focused on crossing the muds and water with working as a tractor. The modern cars can pass through 900mm of water without being a burden on the engine.
Introduced the first monster truck
It may not come as a shock that Land Rover was the company that introduced the world’s first monster trucks. It was the British Forestry Commission that required a vehicle that was quickly able to move through muddy and swampy land, and it was the Land Rover that came up with the innovative model to fulfil the requirements. The design included a lighter upper body with large tractor tires along with the axels with increased efficiency.
A symbol of adventure
With their stubborn design and strength, these cars have long been seen as the primary vehicles for exploring and adventure. Land Rovers were the first cars to win the world’s famous Dakar Rally in France and were a leader in crossing the Darian Gap. Oxford and Cambridge Far Eastern Expedition was a competition sponsored by Land Rovers in which students of Oxbridge travelled from London to Singapore. For almost two decades, beginning the 1980’s the company provided vehicles for the famous Land Rover Olympics of 4×4 cars. In this race, the team of two people based on their nationalities had to travel thousands of miles around the world going through adverse landscape and weather to win the ultimate prize. It is no surprise that the population in remote areas prefer buying land rovers over other cars because of their multi-purpose qualities.
Multiple owners over the years
Initially, it was part of the Rover Company where the two brothers Spencer and Maurice worked but became a part of Rover Triumph division once the Leyland Motor Company took over in 1967. Due to the difficulties faced by the parent company, it was separated as Land Rover Company since 1978. BMW bought Land Rover in 1994 and tried to integrate it within their brand. A few years later, they sold Land Rover to Ford Motor Company, and it became part of Ford’s Premier Automotive Group after the acquisition of £6 million. In 2007 Ford announced that it would sell the Jaguar and Land Rover and Tata Motors India entered a successful bid of £1.7 billion a year later to buy both the brands along with three other lesser known trademarks.

Land Rovers have increased in quality and fame over the years; it shows in the record total annual sales results in 2018 which went up 1.2% to 180833 and with the innovative design and purposes, this number is predicted to go up in the coming years.

Described as statistically the greatest driver the sport has ever seen, Michael Schumacher ranks first among Formula 1 drivers for the most World Championship titles won, the greatest number of fastest laps and the most races won in a single season.


He was born on the 3rd of January, 1969 in Hurth-HerMulheim, Germany to his parents Rolf and Elisabeth. Racing champion Michael Schumacher began racing go-karts at the tender age of four. By age 6, he had won his first club championship. He became an driver for the Jordan-Ford team at the Belgium Grand Prix in 1991 where he made his Formula 1 debut. In 1996, he joined the Ferrari team and stayed there until the year 2005. Michael Schumacher is a record 7-time Formula 1 champion and an undoubtedly inspirational human being.


Schumacher suffered a seemingly minor injury in 2013, at the French winter sports resort of Chamonix which unfortunately turned out to be much more, as he sustained brain injuries as a result of the accident and was put into a medically induced coma for 6 months.


Michael Schumacher has proven to be a figure to be reckoned with in the world of car racing and in life, and there are plenty of lessons we can all learn from him.

Mediocrity and Success Do Not Tally

You can’t aim for success and be on a medium level. Constantly aim to be the best at what you do, be it in your personal life or career. The successful people you look up to today wouldn’t be where they are if they had decided to stay on a comfortable level and undistinguished.
